Lake of the Sky Trail Runs - Aid Stations Access

Driving from START/FINISH, Tahoe City:
Take SR28 towards Kings Beach. After about 10 miles, in Kings Beach turn north to SR267 towards Truckee.
Continue 3.3 miles to the top of Brockway Summit.
Turn left onto Rd 73 (Mt. Watson Rd or 16N73).
Easy driving from Truckee. Just take SR267 towards Lake Tahoe. It is about 9-10 miles to Brockway Summit. The exact distance depends on where you entered SR267. Take right on the top of the summit.

All Aid Stations of the race are accessible by Rd 73.
It is paved from Brockway Summit almost all the way to AS 1 (11.2 miles), but narrow in many places with blind turns, climbs and descents.
Drive slowly, be alert at all times. Watch for oncoming traffic, bikers and hikers on the road. Park your car off road only.

Aid Station 4 (AS 4) - Turnaround for the 36.4 mi race
Tahoe Rim Trail crosses Rd 73 at this point.
It is just 1.3 miles from Brockway Summit. Parking is very limited. This AS is used by the 36.4 mile runners only, including relay.

Aid Station 3 (AS 3) - Watson Lake
Tahoe Rim Trail comes at Watson Lake at this point. It is 4.9 miles from AS 4.
Turn left onto a very narrow paved Watson Lake access road. There is a sign - 'SR50'. The road is in bad conditions with deep potholes.
Drive 0.7 mile to the Aid Station. This AS is used by the 36.4 mile, Marathon and relay races. It is a good place to meet your runner, but parking is limited.

Aid Station 2 (AS 2) - Painted Rock
Tahoe Rim Trail crosses Rd 73 at this point.
It is 2.4 miles from the Watson Lake access road to AS 2. This AS is used by all races and relays except the 8 mile race. Parking is limited, but the place is not crowded.

Aid Station 1 (AS 1) - Cinder Cone
It is 4.1 miles from AS 2. About 2.5 miles from AS 2 the paved section of Rd 73 ends and it splits into 2 dirt roads with a green gate on each. Rd 73 goes uphill to the right. From this point it is 1.5 miles driving on a rocky road. The AS 1 is located about 50 yards uphill on the TRT and visible from the road.
We do not encourage driving to AS 1 - long drive, rough last section, only 4.0 miles (mostly downhill) to the finish line for runners.
